NOVEMBER HOLIDAY

Check in went well for all 3 rooms. Garden suite rooms were clean and spacious. Small resort footprint so very easy to get everywhere. Problems were the elevator being out for a whole day and we were on the 6th floor! (One person with bad knees) The key cards didn't always work and had to be redone. One room had the air conditioner freeze and then had to wait to thaw and find a proper temperature. All the Al a Carte restaurants were very good except without the premium package you had to line up every morning to reserve your spot. The buffet was quite sufficient and had a good variety of food. Fresh omelettes every morning with fresh fruit for us but lots or items available. Pleasant, helpful staff made our time there relaxing and stress free. Overall a 7 - 7.5 out of 10. We would return. The strong points
Both the kids club and pool entertainment were major highlights of our trip. There was a large variety of food to choose from.
The weak points
Without an altitude upgrade, our stay would not have been the same. I highly recommend you upgrade to altitude. We went during a very busy week and it was difficult to get a pool chair without waking up very early.
Sanitary measures
Mostly great. There are some areas that could use more attention such as the high usage bathrooms around the pool area and buffet. The kids club could also use a facelift.

Myself, my husband and my 19 month old had to sleep in the same bed, as reception couldn't provide with a room with two beds, even though we paid for it.
We checked-in at 6pm and our room wasn't clean. We took pictures of the pubic hair on the toilet and there were no towels or drinks in the fridge.
We paid for all inclusive, but the furst 24h we didn't have even water in the room. We had to pay/buy from the store so we can feed our baby formula.
The couch was very moldy, we had to cover it up so we can sit on it. Cockroachs in the bathroom. We took pictures of the couch, insects and foreign pubic hair.
Even though we informed reception not to knock on the door as our baby was sleeping, housekeeping was still doing it sometimes at 9pm to bring us two bottles of water.
The room was totally not safe for a baby, sharp glass tables, sleapery floors (he fell few times in the bathroom) and mold.
Long waiting times for drinks at the bars, drinks poor quality (cheap beer and sugary drinks) and most of the food available all the time was hotdogs, hamburgers, french fries and nachos. I had to buy fruits from the store to feed my baby.
Employees were very friendly and kind, but they work too much/too many hours and cannot keep up all the time with the requests.
Reception was very slow and unhelpful. Huge lines up, for hours (people were taking chairs to sit on so they can wait), receptionists didn't hurry for helping guests.
I had a visitor one day, for few hours, and reception asked for 2500 pesos (140 USD) for her to come in, stating she had to pay for accommodation/day. The hotel should be ashamed for doing that!
I do not recommend the hotel, I will never stay at this hotel again and I question if to book vacations again with this travel agency. [Details]

It's Nice

Check was great at the Altitude Lounge. Light finger food and a decent selection of alcohol started things off nice. Our swim-out room was very nice. Everything worked as expected except TV but we didn't ask for it to be fixed as we rarely turn it on anyway. Now the bathroom. Zero hot water at sink. When I say zero, I mean zero. No water came out. I am handy so I checked the hot water shutoff valve and it was turned off. Quick spin of the handle and we had hot water. Why would they turn off the hot water??? I guess the maintenance guy lost out on a tip. Hot water took forever to get to the shower. 2-3 minutes is a long time to wait for hot water. The water in swim-out pool was quite chilly day one but fluctuated to cool at the end. It barely saw the sun due the trees that provided the privacy for the swim-out pool. The water level dropped everyday until we had no water on the 1st level of our deck. Wi-fi was sketchy in the Altitude lounge, most of the swim-out rooms, by the infinity pool.

Buffet was ok at best with an omlette station that was pretty good. A la carte restaurants were hit and miss. Mexican and steak were definite misses. Japanese was pretty good. Italian was fantastic.

Nightly entertainment was weak. The performers were awesome but if they had a dedicated area for the shows, they would be much better. The stage was right in front of the Take a Bite Cafe so there were people walking behind the performers. Cushioned seating was on the walkway that were set up for each show.

The Sky bar was a dive bar with cheap seats that played music too loud. The video that the resorts plays regularly shows the Sky Bar of another era.

Pools were excellent. They were cleaned regularly and water tested daily.

The swim-up bar at the infinity pool was sometimes biased to breasts, if you didn't have any, you were getting served later. You had to place towels early if you wanted seats around the pool as there was not enough for everyone. The snack bars served the best fish tacos. There were a couple of servers walking around the pool that were kept busy. Felix was amazing and was compensated for it. He remembered our drinks each day. Others in our group had room issues that took FAR too long to correct.
Our group have described this resort as a great starter resort if its your first jump into the all-inclusive thing but for somewhat seasoned travellers, it was a bit disappointing overall. We met some really great people and had some wonderful conversations with strangers. [Details]

We had a family of 20, 3 children under the age of 6. The hotel was perfect for families. Lots of pool time and lovely ocean to play. The grounds are nice, not too big but nice. The food was good for a all inclusive. Staff is very friendly. We had a junior suite ocean view. It was lovely. The rest of the family had a couple rooms that had mold. Those rooms where closer to the lobby. Overall we had a lovely stay. I would recommend it for families. [Details]

overall it was not the best experience ever, we wanted to have a relaxing vacation and we found ourselves fighting to find a good place to eat. do not book here unless you paid for a swim out suite because they are the ones that get to choose where to eat first, and If after they choose there is anything left, then you can choose or be left with eating all three meals/per day at the buffet and even at the buffet servers need to help those who are staying at the swim out suites before they help you. there was something always broken in the room and if we called to get it fixed we had to wait in the room until someone from maintenance was able to come help so you can loose a whole morning stuck in your room waiting for maintenance. WIFI is horrible anywhere in the hotel. [Details]

We have stayed at many resorts on both coasts and have always done the upgrade. While the hotel was clean and well maintained, service was poor, I wasted the money to the upgrade “ altitude “ status, only time we saw our Concierge was at check in, Edgar made no other attempts to see if we needed anything nor try and contact us during our stay. Tried getting help to book for Spa no luck. Our in room fridge never got stocked, even after I ask for wine instead of beer for my wife. Snacks in the Altitude Lounge was a joke, never keeper it stocked even no plates. Better off going to the outside Oxo market (7-11). It's our last night was hoping to make our 30th anniversary special but I picked the wrong resort. So sad for my wife. [Details]

There couldn't have been a more beautiful spot for this hotel to be. Nuevo is gorgeous, the beach was just impeccable. I wouldn't recommend it for the food though. If you're a picky eater, this place isn't for you. The Grill was amazing which is one of three restaurants onsite. The Asian place, not so much. We ended up ordering room service because the food was better on that menu than at the buffet. Make certain to confirm prices with the taxi driver PRIOR to getting in and accepting what the hotel says the cost is. Better yet, Uber everywhere or bus, if you can. I give it a 4 out of 5 as everything else was fantastic. [Details]

Met/Exceeded Expectations

This was our first trip to Mexico ever. We are Hawaii vacationers. I would say over all it was a good experience at this hotel. We stayed in the Junior site/Ocean View and upgraded to the altitude club. The room was exactly as it was shown on the website. We had a beautiful view of the pool grounds and the ocean. The beds are firm, but very comfortable. They cleaned our rooms and made our beds every day. They turned down our bed covers one day only and we had wine and cupcakes in our room one day only, I think this should have been a daily occurrence(bed covers being turned down) being apart of the altitude club. They have a altitude room where snacks and alcohol is provided to eat and make your own drinks. We did not use this at all. Altitude club members had access to roof top bar and very small pool. My daughter in her 30's used this every night, but we only accessed it once. Not great evening entertainment at this hotel at all, That would be my biggest complaint. It had a nice beach and three nice pools. Not enough pool side loungers. Even at 7:00am in the morning most people had put towels on all the chairs that had some shade. The morning and lunch buffets were fantastic, supper not so much, but you could fine something you liked. Ala carts were fantastic. Service from staff in all areas were fantastic. Very friendly and aimed to please. This hotel brings in vendors three days a week. I feel that they could really improve in this area. Very little variety. There are vendors along the beach to seek out as well though. You could also pay for horse back riding on the beach and other activities like para sailing sea doo's ect. I would go back. Thank for the very relaxing vacation. [Details]

Krystals grand

I enjoyed my stay at Krystal Grand, the hotel was clean and well laid out. The adult pool was really nice and over looks the ocean so you get the best of both.
The buffet was the smallest of any resort I have been to so far, and there was rarely guacamole. The food was average but despite the small selection, you could always find something you liked.
The only place this resort really under delivered was when it came to the a la carte dinners. You had to book the morning of the day prior. If you were not standing in line at 6:30 am, there was absolutely no way you would get a reservation.
I will also mention that no one is working the desk at 6:30 am, so you must sit in a dark front entrance for 30 minutes waiting for someone to start their shift. Then it would take 5-10 minutes for them to get the computer on. So 30-40 minutes standing at line at 6:30 am would get you a reservation. The least you would hope for is a cup of coffee at this time, however the coffee bar didn't open until 7. So you would leave the line for for a la carte reservation and head directly downstairs to the coffee bar where you would wait another 10 minutes for a coffee.
The food at the a la carte was not much better than the buffet, so I'm not sure it was worth the effort for the reservation. They absolutely need to change their process for this.
All of that being said, The staff was friendly, resort was clean, the recreation staff was entertaining at the adult pool, The food was average, but we definately enjoyed our stay. [Details]

Beautiful area with amazing walks outside of resort, short walk to beautiful Bucserias, pools were lovely, staff was great, we had a lovely room BUT & a BIG BUT u had to get up at 7am every morning to book a reservation for a restaurant for the next day - by 730am there likely was none available. The buffet was great for breakfast & lunch ( & snack areas good for lunch) but very disappointing for dinner. This alone is enough for us never to go back.

We thought this resort was non-smoking!

, Surrey, BC
2023-02-09
Awesome pool and beach. Food and drinks were so-so. Buffet had more than enough good food to eat well. But the a la cart restaurants were not good. Meat and veggies overcooked and oversalted.
Drinks were too sweet. For example, strawberry Margaritas made with strawberry syrup, not fresh or frozen strawberries. Lime margaritas had lots of added sugar, unless you directed the bartender to make them less sweet.
We booked because we were told the resort was non-smoking. But, when we arrived, we found that there were smoking areas on site. The only nightclub was one of the smoking allowed areas. Too bad, because it would have been fun to party in the rooftop nightclub. Too much smoke for an asthma sufferer. The most disappointing part was that the hotel manager refused (yes, actually refused, and we have it in writing) to enforce the non-smoking rules in and around the pools. She actually said she would not enforce the rules! [Details]

Shade is precious and to see shaded chairs vacant all day annoying. All staff were wonderful. Felt sorry for the bartenders in the sports bar and sky bar and both places rather dull. Spent 2weeks there and was disappointed.we were told the food was fantastic well it was terrible in the buffet the service was so bad! They would clean the table have you sit down then would not return with silverware and take your drink order. They really cater to the Mexican people vacationing there. Have to wake up at4:00in the morning if you want to get a chair around the pool. We arrive to our room and we have no fridge door does not lock didn't come with fridge for three days and fix door in four days.around pool area was not bad for cleanness but walking to your room the hallways were very dirty with food tray's sitting there for three days and hair and garage in the hallways. They have a bar in the lobby but no chairs and tables to sit at in evening to hav a drink nothing going on in the evening very boring. The best thing was a coffee bar. Great to relax in the morning. They have 24hours room service one day it was good and the next everything was ice cold and tasted like it sat overnight. All in all would not go back or recommend it to any of our friends! [Details]

I've been to PVR and Nuevo a few times. This was the worst hotel I've been to. Very, very dirty. The room smelled. There was gum on the bathroom floor. Cleaner rarely came by (twice in 7 days). We had to go search out water and towels as we weren't supplied much for the room and not restocked.Bugs in the room. Still not sure if they were bed bugs or not. Dishes left in hallway and never picked up (4 days and counting as we left). Pools were slimey and gritty. Buffet was ok, but don't go to their Asian themed restaurant…def not worth it. The only good part was the staff. Most were very good. [Details]

Overall good . Except for the crappy room given to us for the first two days we were there.
My girlfriend and I specifically asked for two beds in the room We were given a tiny room with one bed - this room would be good for one person but it was way too small for two people. It was difficult to maneuver around our luggage. I immediately went back to the front desk to tell the person that it wasn't what we asked for and he said he couldn't do anything about changing the room for four more days because they were booked up. After complaining twice a day they gave us a bigger room w two beds on our third day. I wasn't demanding ocean view jr suite- just a room w two beds. So, that was annoying

In comparison to other Krystal hotels it was below standards. Wifi only works in public places, clean towels were not changed in room, food in Japanese restaurant was more Chinese and not that great, and for a quick lunch they only ever had one person working so line-ups were long. What was fantastic was the coffee shop. Management does not allow the bars to have tip jars - so crazy as the good employees will leave as soon as they can get new jobs! Activities were okay but who plays Bingo at 9:30 pm? [Details]

Disorganized Chaos

I stayed at the Krystal Grand for a week. There's a couple of things that need improvement at this hotel. 1. They do not offer any sort of room service for anything let alone water. They did not properly restock our fridge everyday. We called down for water and the front desk lady said “the bar is closed”. 2. No buses pick you up from the hotel for excursions so you will need to take a cab. - this actually ruined one day for us as the hotel staff told the cab driver where we needed to go and they dropped us off at the wrong pick up point and we had to go to a different hotel in the area to get a cab driver to pick us up and drop us back at the hotel. This experience was very frustrating as no one from my group had service on their phones. The hotel did not offer any sort of compensation for this inconvenience. 3. If you are looking for any sort of night life this hotel is not it - no “disco” which is what was in the description in fact the only 1 bar stayed open till 1:00am. 4. NO WIFI. Nobody from our group got wifi in our rooms or anywhere around the resort. We ended up paying 15$ a day to get service due to this issue.
Lastly, I do feel like this hotel was very much a “locals” hotel as not many people spoke English. Just a heads up if you are looking to go to Kyrstal Grand. [Details]

Nice but boring

I usually don't write reviews, but this hotel needs one. On arrival it took so long to get registered (about an hour). The hotel itself is ok but the entertainment was lacking should I say the least. Our room was good, needs a shelf in the shower for your stuff, needs somewhere to hang things towels, wet suites etc. There is nowhere to get together to socialize in the evening (we were a group of 9). They have a lobby bar with about 5 chairs overlooking the pool area, there are also about 6 cushion waiting chairs. When we were coming down for supper there was nowhere for us to meet up and wait for each other, we had to stand in a walkway and wait while others that were still in their wet swimwear walked by us. The food and drinks were good, and the staff were amazing. This hotel has a big building on the right side of the hotel that was a waste of space, the 10 days we were on holidays there was nothing going on at the hotel. We spoke to a couple of the staff, and they said go up to the sky bar. It was nice up there but sat about 20 so needless to say a group of 9 couldn't get seats. If you're not out before 7:30 you won't get a chair. The adult pool has about 16 chairs. The bar pool is a family pool so if your relaxing reading a book be aware you may get splashed or hit by a water gun. The entertainment crew would rate 3-10 not much recruiting or letting people know what is happening out at the pool. One morning we were going out to get chairs at the beach and the pool guy was "cleaning" the pool, he proceeded to stand on the pool bar with his net and cleaned off the pool bar table pulling 30ish half empty drinks that were left out there from the day before all into the pool then scooped up all the cups. We did not go in that pool again. If you already booked this resort, you will enjoy it but will probably like us and others we talked to will not go back. We go a couple times a year and this is the first resort we had nothing to do in the evenings at it. [Details]

The strong points
-room was nice and big, great view -staff at the beach, buffet and restaurants were great -food was good both at buffet and restaurants -the ladies that were on cleaning duty the pool washrooms were great, always cleaning them
The weak points
-no area to socialize in the evening -no entertainment in the evening unless you like trivia or bingo -not enough chairs at pool for people at resort -drinks were not consistent (order same drink 3 times and all would taste different)
Sanitary measures
-they had sanitizers here and there, but half didn't work.

A large, busy resort with two large, nice pools situated on the ocean. The hotel was clean and in good repair and the staff pleasant and courteous. All rooms have beachfront views. [Details]

The strong points
Pleasant staff, walking distance to large "Walmart" type store, taxis easy to get, food good, clean spacious rooms.
The weak points
Too noisy for us. First room was right under the top floor bar; we moved to another room and it was better, but there is nightly entertainment that can be noisy. Communication was a bit sketchy for us. ATM always out of money.

Very nice hotel, restaurants and pools. The view of the ocean, sunsets and sunrise were incredible. The hotel was clean and included a stocked fridge in the room with drinks at no extra charge. Only drawback was the coffee shop did not have ice to make iced coffee most days until around noon. Taxi service available with no waiting. Would recommend this hotel to stay in. [Details]
