We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Banyan: the room was comfortable and convenient, the custodial staff came by every few days to provide us with some of the essentials, it was close to soooooo much. We loved the view. All the staff were friendly and helpful! We'd return - 150%. [Details]

HORIBLE !!!

My review is based on room G403. From the moment you enter the room, the stench of mold suffocates you. The stench is everywhere: in the main living area, the bedrooms, the bathrooms. You open the kitchen cupboards and the smell is etched in all the kitchenware. I made myself some tea and, although I washed the mug before, I could not taste it because of the mold. It was hard to sleep at night and, once I woke up, the smell kept me up.

I travelled in May for a week with my parents, as their guest. I could expect a place like this in a third world country, but not in North America. How could such a mold-infested apartment pass inspection? My mom has a mold allergy and got sick there and required strong antibiotics and puffers (a first for her). We told the front desk and they offered to give us a room on the ground floor. However, when my mom booked it, the only request she had was that it wouldn't be on the ground floor (due to noise and safety issues).

To add insult to injury, the hotel management sent an inspection (after we left) and found nothing wrong! The report concerns itself with thermal testing but there is no mention at all of mold (although you can see it and we have pictures to prove it).

We could have overlooked the dated furniture and décor; the sticky-looking dressers in the master bedroom; the fact that there is no cleaning during the week, except changing of towels. However, we could not overlook the mold. It is a serious health hazard for anybody with an underlying issue, and both my mom and I had trouble breathing and getting rest because of it. [Details]

Aston at the Maui Banyan Review

We were late arriving at the hotel - sometime after midnight, but the security guard met us right away and let us in and got us parked no problem. Our 1 bedroom condo was clean and nice and big with two air conditioning units and two ceiling fans (one in the living room and one in the bedroom) - Our unit also had 2 full sized bathrooms. Decor in the room was a bit dated. The gardens around the buildings are really nice - pool area has 5 large brand new Webber BBQs so didn't ever have to wait for a BBQ. Best part is that the location in south Kihei is fantastic - right across the street from Kamaole Beach number 2 and a bunch of restaurants and shops are all within walking distance. And all the rest of the beaches in South Maui are just a short drive away. [Details]

The strong points
Large size of the one bedroom unit, two full bathrooms, great garden and pool area with plenty of BBQs and the location in south Kihei is fantastic.
The weak points
Decor was a little dated. Balcony is too narrow to comfortably sit out on.

Loved it!

This hotel worked out great for myself and my boyfriend. There are some food options within walking distance (5-10 min walk). Super soft white sand beaches within a 3-15min walk. The closest (Kamole 2) is directly across the street from the hotel while others are very close on either side of that beach. Although we don't do many 'tours' the lady at the activities desk was very helpful, giving many tips on places to snorkel (we recommend Big Beach), places to hike, and other things to do. There are movie boxes in the reception area to get movies from (this is included in the $18 amenity fee paid directly to the hotel) this is nice for those relaxing evenings and they have many new movies, updated regularly. We had a more recently renovated room which was very nice... Wish I could have taken both the shower and bed home with us. Lots of free parking in the parade right beside the central buildings on the grounds. This hotel is broken up into separate buildings so the farther back on the property the further you have to walk to get places but really things are still pretty close even if you are in one of the farthest back units. The front desk staff were polite and helpful. We arrived after reception closed (closes at 10pm), so security is available to provide you with your room key and papers with relevant information. Overall we had a great experience at this hotel.... Nothing fancy like an expensive hotel but great service and amenities for the Price! [Details]

The strong points
Many beaches nearby, the closest being directly across the street from the hotel. Some restaurants nearby, Thai, Mexican, pub food, shave ice stand, etc.
The weak points
There are two pools; however, they are both fairly small. Pool times open late in the morning (9am) so if you are an early riser this can be frustrating. Not much night life within walking distance; however, there are some closeby by car.

Right opposite the best beach. Very friendly helpful staff. Clean and if advised of any maintenance issues, get onto it asap. Offer two hour late check out and a hospitality room (no bed but the ability to shower and rest before heading to your night flight after your long day's activity)for free which are really appreciated. They have different rooms with different amenities and views so if views are what you seek - make sure you ask for that. They have WIFI but it is poor as are many Maui hotspots. The elevators are the fastest and smoothest I have experienced in such a facility. They have pools and sand wash off poles as you enter from the beach (very important for that sand). We were very happy with it. [Details]

Great Price for a family of 6

We stayed in room G109 2 Bedroom Deluxe room and it was the perfect room and location. It was on the main level. We had a beautiful large Lanai that was within walking distance to the pool and BBQ grills. It was great for the kids to run around outside and you can keep a close eye on them. The room was newly renovated. The grounds were kept clean. The beach was right across the street. The location of the hotel was awesome. Lots of stores, restaurants, food trucks, beaches, that were all within walking distance. The only thing i would have to complain about is that the kitchen and 1 of the bathroom had a few very small tiny bugs crawling around. I would just squish them with my fingers everytime i saw one. The kitchen is fully equipped. Rubbermaid containers are supplied for any leftovers. Dishwasher detergent, liquid dish soap, scrub, paper towels, ice cubes and laundry detergent is all supplied. The only thing they don't really supply is salt and pepper. They have complimentary pool/beach towels. Overall, we had a wonderful. The front desk staff was always friendly and helpful and the room was clean. We would go back!! [Details]
