I thought we had made a mistake going to a small resort away from town. Boy was I wrong. From the moment we walked in we were treated to amazing hospitality. All of the staff are great. The greet you with a smile ever time. I got a big hug from four of the staff on our departure. They were like family, and it was hard to say goodbye. The food is the best I have ever had at a resort, or cruise, [including a luxury cruise in French Polynesia, and it was great]. The resort is old, and in need of updating,[ and repairs] that I understand is going to start in June. I just hope they keep the ambiance. [Details]

The strong points
The staff, service, and the food. The distance from town is both a plus and a minus. No loud music blaring, and no smoking in the public areas.
The weak points
Again, distance from town, both negative and positive. Please have someone monitor the loungers. We saw some that were "saved" when we went down for breakfast at 7:30, and no one showed up until after 11:00, I heard a lot of people complain about this.

My wife and I just returned from Villa Rolandi on Isla Mujeres which is just a 12 KM boat ride from Cancun. It has recently been taken over by a company called AMresorts which owns high end brands such as Zoetry, Dreams, Secrets, breathless and other high end properties. Villa Rolandi is very small with only 35 rooms.
We arrived at their private dock behind the resort after their catamaran picked us up a short distance from the airport, we were greeted by Marco who is the General Manager and a great guy. Took good care of us and the two other couples that boated over with us. A good way to start our vacation. When we got to our room, it was clear that it had recently been renovated with new furniture and newly painted. Our king size bed was extremely beautiful and comfortable. We slept like a babies! The washroom was huge with 2 separate shower heads etc…Top notch.
The beach is small. It's like your own little private beach. Pool area was well appointed. We never had problems finding chairs, umbrellas etc… If you are going there to make friends, probably the wrong place. During our stay, everyone was cordial and respected everyone's privacy and vice versa. It is also very romantic. You can see the staff is very attentive to small details.
The food! WOW, 5*. It was amazing. Lots to choose from. Seafood galore, nice big juicy steaks, the wine was always very good as well. No buffet. 24 hours room service. We had breakfast every morning in our room and it was very well done. We were very impressed. If you have a chance for lunch, order the seafood fajitas!!!
Remember this is a very small property and not a place to beach walk due to the natural formation of the island. If you want a place with 5* food, need to relax, spend some quality time with your significant other, you must place this on you're shopping list! You will not be disappointed. [Details]
