The hotel was clean and safe , some much needed upgrades to gardens and pool furniture were done , and the spraying to keep mosquitoes at bay was good

Bus ride from airport was 1hr. It was a nice resort where I met many repeat visitors. Staff as usual were very friendly and the grounds, snack and pool area were very clean. The pool is very big and varies in height in various spots. Snack bar by the pool serves great red wine. Food was decent, loves the juices and fresh fruit. Highly recommend!

This place is very chill, especially for families. And the buffet is excellent. What's lacking is activities. The entertainment staff did not do a good job of actually making activities happen. For example, there was a volleyball game scheduled at 4pm every day, but it never happened..

Having travelled to Cuba eight times over the last 14 years, I am very realistic about what to expect. We were hesitant to book due to concerns around food shortages, water and electrical issues, and the mosquito situation. After extensive research, we chose an internationally owned resort in hopes of avoiding some of the more common issues currently reported across Cuba. Overall, Sol Rio de Luna y Mares offered a clean and generally enjoyable stay, with some clear strengths but also noticeable limitations tied to the current situation in the country. We stayed on the Luna side, where rooms have been newly renovated. We upgraded to an ocean-view room for $10 USD per night, which was absolutely worth it. The room was modern, clean, and comfortable. Throughout the resort, the pools, bars, restaurants, and common areas were well maintained, and staff were friendly and welcoming. We did experience water outages during our stay, which we were told were Holguín-wide and affected other resorts as well. While water pressure in our room was very low and hot water sometimes took up to 10 minutes to come through, we did usually have hot water eventually. Food and beverage options reflected current realities in Cuba. Food was basic but generally good, and while there were limitations, we never went hungry. Bar service was inconsistent, and drink options were quite limited, which impacted our overall experience.

The hotel itself can use some TLC, but overall, it provided everything we needed. Our fridge and TV didn't work, but if you came to watch TV then you're in the wrong place and bevvies are just a couple steps away at anyone of the many bars at the property. The wifi isn't the best either and would recommend just using your data. The property was in the process of being repaired including the grounds and it was obvious that the staff were very busy working hard at this. There were only two a la carts, but due to staff having difficulty finding transportation to work, we were thankful these were open. The staff were wonderful, caring and giving. We tipped everyday and this was definitely appreciated. I would strongly recommend showing your appreciation with tips and small gifts, it's the least we can do! Cuba is a humbling country and we appreciate everything they had to offer. The beach is beautiful and well maintained and has amazing snorkeling opportunities. The water sports operators were great and the catamaran is a must! Overall, I appreciate everything this resort had to offer under the circumstances. I wish you all love and peace coming into this new year.

The Ocean. It was amazing!!! I would rate it 10 out of 10. For all seven days, we had the best weather—no waves, pure water, and magic sand. Only on the last day, there were waves, but it wasn't a big deal at all. A great benefit of the location is snorkeling. There are reefs, and you don't need to rent a boat to go into the ocean. You just need a mask, and you'll feel like you're inside an aquarium! There is also a diving center for those who are ready to take the risk—we are not among those (LOL). There is a beach bar with drinks. To be honest, the piña colada wasn't as good as the one in the Dominican Republic, but it wasn't bad either. You can also use kayaks, paddleboards, and catamarans for free. However, we weren't lucky with this service because the safety boat wasn't working to monitor the area, so none of the resorts could provide this service at that time. To be honest, we weren't very disappointed—it wasn't a big deal at all.

Cuba is undergoing an economic downturn and it's having a trickling effect everywhere...from chatting with the manager it's been about 3 months that hotel don lino has experiencing all kinds of problems too...first the cons:..bad roads towards the resort,rocky beach,poor selection of bar drinks,ants and cockroaches in some rooms,power blackouts( they've installed a generator),no internet, basic choice of meals,.no bank nor ATM ...safe lacked batteries to set code ..hardly any night entertainment except some partying at the 24 hour bar,my room had lizards..pros: staff working hard to maintain services ,calesh riders outside take clients to playa Blanca who're happy to be paid in Canadian cash..(it's accepted everywhere)..

My 2nd visit to this hotel. Things have deteriorated with regards to beverage and water availability within the last 12 months. Food was plentiful but repetitive. Pool and grounds well maintained. Staff was friendly and always willing to make the vacation better where they were able to. I'll return again.

This was the most accommodating hotel/ resort. We had issues with our first room and spoke with hotel staff who then upgraded our room for free and switched our room without any hassle. Hotel staff was friendly and helped guide us to figuring out excursions. I have nothing bad to say about this resort. The food was good as well, lots to choose from at their buffet. I was told you get what you pay for, so I didn't have high expectations. But this resort really exceeded our expectations and we would not hesitate to return again. Wifi was slow (it did work) but you are on vacation after all. Beaches were within walking distance and very clean. They had nightly entertainment for everyone of all ages. It was overall an amazing experience.
