The Hotel is on the French Side - St. Martin

, Richmond Hill, ON
2011-02-11
The hotel is old, but there have been many improvements (spa and bar area). The rooms have not been updated and the bedspreads and sheets are old and worn. The beds and pillows have been replaced. The rooms are clean, but not "modern" and may put people off. The food was absolutely amazing with a new chef, but the entrés are expensive 15-18 Euros. The strong points
I enjoy sitting by the lagoon and reading -it's quieter than the ocean. The new fitness room is great and many people really enjoyed the massages at the spa. The stand-out item would have to be the food!
The weak points
The bed linens and overall look of the room and the old tiles in the bathroom are very discouraging. The price is incredibly high for the hotel. For 3,100 I could easily find other locations with better value.

Not bad...not great

, Milton, ON
2009-07-09
The hotel is in alright shape, however the walls are paper thin so you better hope that you don't have a neighbour that snores. The service (unless you speak French) is an absolute joke!! The food is acceptable but you are likely to wait 10 minutes before you get a drink at the bar and don't expect a smile. The all inclusive bar closed at 11:00pm and then it cost 3 Euros a drink...don't be shocked when there are no bartenders in sight between 10:30 and 11:01pm! The pool is very small and the beach is on the lagoon. Overall I would not go back to the hotel but will be back to St. Martin because it is a wonderful island, plenty of beaches and entertainment. The third time is not the charm

, Ottawa, ON
2009-06-26
This was our third trip to the hotel and subsequently our last. The first two times, it was great, obviously we would not have kept going back.
We felt nickle and dimed from the moment of check-in, it costs to get a clean beach towel?!? Then certain drinks would cost extra depending on the time of day.
The service at the restaurant was slow and not friendly. A huge change from the times before. The quality of the food had gone down too.
Overall, it was a bad enough experience that I would never go back to that hotel. I do not recommend it to anybody who may have high expectations! [Details]

The strong points
The island is beautiful; the hotel is deplorable.
The weak points
We were removed from the room at 11 a.m. and did not leave the hotel until 8 p.m. There were no convenience rooms, in which to cool, except the baggage storage, which had a strong septic stench.

Mercure St. Martin

, Caledonia, ON
2009-06-26
We liked the hotel, but will stay at another property next time. The rice is always going up there, and there really are no incentives to go there.I found the guy who entertains at night(Rudy) to be a bit wierd. Always looking after his own needs before others, making sure he has a date after his evenings work rather than doing his job. Property versus price, too little for the price. [Details]
